On June 23, 2018, what began as a routine outing for twelve boys and their soccer coach in northern Thailand turned into a global emergency. The team entered the Tham Luang Nang Non cave complex after practice, but rising floodwaters from an early monsoon storm trapped them deep within the cave system.

Initial search efforts were hampered by limited visibility, narrow passageways, and relentless rainfall that continued to flood the cave. The boys, aged 11 to 16, and their 25-year-old coach were believed to be nearly 2.5 miles from the cave entrance, huddled on a rocky ledge above the flood line.
Divers from Thailand’s Navy SEALs, joined by elite cave divers and experts from countries including the United Kingdom, Australia, and the United States, launched a desperate bid to locate and rescue the team. After nine tense days, British divers found all thirteen alive—weak, but safe.
